One-On-One Computer Tutoring for Seniors
is a program of The Free Library of Philadelphia designed to close the generation gap. Local college students and recent retirees with good computer and people skills visit the local senior center for three-to-four hours each week and provide personal, one-on-one tutoring sessions for the seniors. In-house laptops are used during the 30-minute meetings.
Libraries in Franklin County are taking
Computer Classes on the Road
. Monthly, single-session computer courses are offered in various locations and range in topic from basic computer skills to using Internet, email, and Microsoft Office basics, to more in-depth coverage of the various MS Office tools and social networking. A summer workshop is offered in English and Spanish for secondary Migrant Education students and also includes Internet homework help, finding post-secondary schools, and financial aid resources online.
In Dauphin County,
TechStarz
is a program of the Hershey Public Library that encompasses 19 steps to expand and strengthen a person’s knowledge of the latest technology. It is an online, learn-at-your-own-pace, interactive program designed to help library staff members increase their familiarity with online tools and programs often used by library users. Topics include blogging, web-based applications, Wikis, RSS feeds, social media, MP3s and podcasts, and online books.
